Penny Sampler Quilt Club Catch Up

I wanted to do a quick post for the Penny Sampler Club. My May blocks have been done for over a week. This is a weird month. First, we go our assignments on about the 7th. I still felt like I had all the time in the world. Then about a week later, I worried that I would run out of time, so I started on them. Then, I was so taken with them, I did them all in just a few days. So now I am working on other things and waiting until June.

 This first block is my bell flowers. When I posted it to Instagram, one person thought it was tiny tee shirts and another thought it was kimonos. So funny.

We made two economy blocks this month and mine are both fussy cut windows from the Sonata line by Amy Sinibaldi. I had pulled that fabric in the beginning when I did my fabric pulls for the project, just hoping to be able to use them.

And this one, my favorite, is the flowers in a vase. I loved doing it in the last Penny Sampler and was so happy to see it back in this one as well. Choosing the fabrics is my favorite part of so many of these machine paper pieced blocks. I never thought I would ever learn to do this technique, let alone to like it. Rachel has changed all that for me. Her blocks are so interesting they just draw me in.

Love is Love is Love

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. I have been working so hard getting the house ready to sell, that I decided to give myself today off. I have done the dishes and made the bed, but the rest of my day has been spent sewing. I am working on a couple of projects using Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew's heart pattern. One is a small quilt and the other is more of a long term project.

 I started out using two fabrics from the Paperie line by Amy Sinibaldi. I love all the sweet prints in this line, but these hearts are my favorite and I have been trying to use them for almost a year now.

 I made four of them to see how I liked them. I wanted to see how they looked together on the wall.

 And I must say, my favorite part is where these little words show up. I did not fussy cut. This is totally random.

Then I tried something different. I left the top and bottom border strips off a couple to see how it would look off set every other row. I loved it! Sew that is how I am going with it now. I hope to have it finished soon to show you.

 These are the hearts that started the whole thing. I pulled a few 5 inch squares out of my red scrap bin and began to make these.

I don't really know where I am going with this right now, but I see it as a long term project. I want to use lots of other colors as well as the red, and I am thinking about trying out some other solids for the borders as well. I would like to end up with a big quilt eventually.

And lastly, these lovelies have sprung up in my yard. 80 degrees last Sunday coaxed them out. I do love an early spring. Have a great day and I'll see you soon.

Fawning Over Fabric

It has been awhile since I showed pictures of fabrics I love. I used to participate in Sunday Stash every week, but now, I seldom buy new fabrics. I have tons and am trying to sew from stash as much as I can. Also, not very many fabrics speak to me right now, a leftover condition from so many months of no creativity, I am sure. But this one is a beauty! Paperie by Amy Sinibaldi for Art Gallery Fabrics. I fell in LOVE!

 I first saw some on a blog, can't remember whose. I rushed to look it up and find out what this lovely fabric was. I am not often that inspired.

 The colors are so soft and pretty. Not my usual bright rainbow hues at all.

 I have accumulated seven of the nine limited edition prints. I usually buy half yards or fat quarters where I can, but I bought a whole yard of each of these babies.

 The top one in this photo is a border print that I am saving to make a little dress for Miss N when she is a wee bit bigger. The tiny navy flowery things that are sprinkled all over this really make the whole thing, I think.

 The pinks are so much prettier than my photos suggest. The creams are creamier too.

 This is the print that first grabbed me on that blog. I had to find it and see what else went with it. You get that, don't you?

 Ready to piece, quilt and label something, I just need the right project for these beauties.
