My Friday Finish-Little Things

So I was able to finish up a couple of little projects this week that had been lingering in the sewing room. It feels good to have something finished. Sometimes it feels like I have so many things started and nothing finished. I am sure you know what I mean.

 First I had to get a pillow case made for Sweet J. I had made one for the other two boys, and when I found this much Jack and Jenny still in my stash, I knew that was it. I love making pillow cases. takes 30 minutes. Seriously.

 Then, I needed buttons for the two towel sets for my girls. I was going to go buy some, but then I remembered these cover your own buttons I bought several years ago. Yes!! So fun to make.

 And here they are in action on the towels. I used Alison Glass Feathers for the towels and I love the way it looks.

 And the same print in black for the other set. I know these will get lots of use in the kitchens.

I'm on a Roll Here

Back again with another finish to show you.  I finished this quilt top and showed it off here awhile ago, but now, here it is in all it's crinkly goodness.

 I. LOVE. THIS. QUILT.  I cannot get over how much I love the colors and the quilting and the crinkles since I washed it. The colors are so vibrant. 

 I started this quilt back in February and was just going to make it like all the others I saw on line, with 16 different color flowers. Then, I changed direction.  To a rainbow quilt. I am so glad I did.

 I had trouble deciding on the binding. I could have used almost any color. I went with an orange print from V and Co. Simply Color for the two sides of cool colors and the green raindrops from Laurie Wisbrun's Jack and Jenny line for the warm color sides.  I am pleased with this as well.

 For the back, I use a large chunk of this wonderful flower print. I bought a couple of yards of this several years ago and was debating on how to best use it. It is Honey Meadow by Michael Miller. I was just a little short, so hence, the yellow corner.

And the pretty binding. I think this is getting a hanging sleeve and going up on a wall in the living room. That's Mr. GQ's idea.  Then I can look at it all day long!

Water bottle cozy

My sister found these water bottles at Target.  She thought they were the bees knees for travel.  You fill the bottle with water, and ice if you like it cold.  The bottle filters the water as you drink, pushing it through the filter.  Perfect for travel, since it filters the water for you.  Cheaper that buying bottled water.  Just one problem...ice makes the bottle sweat...a lot.  Our bottles on our trip were dripping everywhere.  My sis had started carrying a small towel to wipe it off frequently.

Enter me, and the solution: a quilted cozy.

 This was my first attempt.  Pretty simple and I liked the fabrics, all scraps from my stash but it didn't quite work out.

 I tried putting it together with a zipper, but as you can see, it did not form fit the shape of the bottle well.  It slid up and down, so back to the drawing board....

This time I used a spare strip left over from Baby B's Jack and Jenny quilt.  I made a sleeve at each end for elastic.  I used 1/2 inch elastic so it would have great holding power.  And it worked!  Sew I love it and now I just have to make some for all the family members in my life who now own one of these amazing bottles, thanks to my sis.  In case you are wondering, they are made by Brita and you can find them at many major stores.
