Ticker Tape Parade

When the Sunday Morning Quilts book came out, I poured over it again and again. I loved the Ticker Tape quilt. I decided to make some, smaller mini ticker tapes, in specific colorways. I made these over a couple of months, and then did nothing with them...until now.

 I used lots and lots of scraps. There's one in here from my very first quilt.

 This is the only one I ended up making in a different shape. Guess I didn't like the shape much?

 I love looking at all these small bits of old projects. I had some great fabrics.

 It's also a great reminder of all the projects that have gone before. I don't think I could do a large quilt of these.

This was my very first one. Yellow is my favorite color. My computer is rearranging them for me, this was supposed to be at the top.

 Ah, purple...most of these are pretty old scraps. I don't have much purple in my stash these days.

And this is what I finally did with all of them. I love seeing them up there every day. So get inspired and do something with all those scraps. This project is easy! Talk to you soon.

First Post of the year

Catchy title, right?  I have been feeling the need to get one up here for the new year.  So here is the sewing I have been doing.

 I really need to take these outside on a sunny day.  Those sunny days are scarce right now.  Anyway this is my purple ticker tape mini for the series I am doing.  The binding is a deep pink that really looks much better than this picture shows.

 Here is the orange ticker tape mini. I really love doing these. With all the scraps, it's like a trip down memory lane of all my sewing projects.  this one has one small patch that isn't quite square or rectangular, but I had to have that leaf on my ticker tape.  Once I get the last two done, I will put them all together and photograph them for you.  I am so close.

 My blue scrap bin has thrown up on my floor.  I am working on the January blocks for the Sunday Morning Quilts Bee.  This round, we are helping each other to make a complete quilt from the book by making the scrap blocks for each other.  For January we are working on Splash and Candy Coated.

 These two sort of aqua colored blocks are for me.  I have all the other blocks from last year's round of SMQ Bee and they needed two more to make 16.  Aqua was one color we didn't do, so I made my own.  I am going to sash them with white and it should make a good sized snuggle quilt.  I just need to figure out the arrangement.

Here are some of the other lovely scrappy blocks my bee mates made for me.  We did one color per month, with each person making two blocks from their scrap stash and then exchanged them.  I will post here and in the Flickr group when I get it together.

Really Random Monday

I've got lots of different stuff to show you today.  This was my only sewing since early last week, so I tried to cram lots in.  Ready?  Here we go:

 First of all, here is my red mini ticker tape all finished and bound in a soft blue green.  I am so loving making these.  It's like a story of past quilts, revisited.  Fun to look at all those scraps again.

 Next, I received some very happy mail from Aunt Marti at 52 Weeks, 52 Quilts.  I won her giveaway last week and this is what I got.  Yes, those are some Kate Spain note cards, note pad, journal and emery boards.  How cool is that?

      The cute pink polka dot box holds these lovelies.  Sew cute!!

 And how about these?  Yes, pink snips with white polka dots on the handles.  Love them!!

 And some awesome polka dot fabrics.  I love both of them.  I really need to make something using all the different dots I have.

 And to top it off, this lovely thank you card, for being a follower of her blog.  Marti, it is my pleasure.  You should go check her out too.

 Next, I spread out all the blocks I have received so far from my Bee mates in the Sunday Morning Quilts Bee.  I wanted to look at them all together, and I am already thinking: sashing, or no sashing?

 Here is a bit of a peak at my Ombre Dots project.  I can't wait to finish this one up and show it to you.  I decided to pin baste it this morning and had no idea how to quilt it, but as I was pinning, it came to me.  Has that ever happened to you?

And I also decided to use a similar quilting pattern on this one.  I got it all quilted, just need to bind it.  I am thinking of trying bias binding for the first time.  I am trying to push myself to learn new tricks.
Since I had such success with these, maybe I will get some batting and go ahead and baste my Swoon quilt. Maybe a quilting pattern will come to me on that one too.  I have waited a long time.

In the Zone

I've been in the zone here.  Do you know the feeling?  Lots getting done, sewing-wise.  It makes me feel so happy to have that be the case.  So here is what happened in the zone the last few days...

 I put new covers on both my round pillows.  I used a combination of Bliss and Vintage Modern.

 This is the back of the two pillows.  I wanted them to go together, yet be different.

 I finished my Swoon quilt top.  All I need now is to figure out how to quilt it and to make the back.

 I pulled out my blue scrap bin to put something away, and decided to make my slab blocks for July in the Sunday Morning Quilts Bee.

I knew I had a lot of blue scraps, the bin will hardly close, but wow!  Seeing some of these really takes me back a ways.  I still love them all as much as when I bought them for projects.  That's the way I used to buy fabric, just for specific projects.

And then I decided to make my blue ticker tape for the series I am doing.  You can see the others here.  I ended up making this one long and thin, because that's the size piece of white I had on hand.  I didn't want to wait to buy more, which I can't afford to right now.  Then I though, eh, why not, it is a scrap project after all.  Now I am thinking I will let the number of ticker tape pieces determine the size and shape.  Some of the colors are slim on scraps.  I think it will add interest to the group.

{Small} Ticker Tape Parade

I was going to set this up to post tomorrow, but after hearing that others had issues with blogger lately, I decided to just go ahead and post.  So lucky you. You get two posts today.  Enjoy.

When we had the Table Topper Blog Hop, I made a Ticker Tape quilt in yellow.  I than quickly decided to start making more in other colors.  My plan is to hang them all up together above our bed.  We don't have a head board, so it would be great to put something so cool there.

When I made the first one, it was so simple to just grab yellow scraps.  It's my favorite color after all and all the yellows looked great together.  So today, when I decided to avoid delay making another Swoon block and make another ticker tape instead, I expected it to be just as easy.  It was not.  I decided to go green for number two.  Do you have any idea how many shades of green there are?

 I think it came out okay.  I had a bit of a time with the darker pieces.  I tried to spread them out so there was balance.  Even though these are taken outside, it is overcast and you can't see them too well.

 In this piece I did not include some of my green scraps for various reasons: too dark, too blue green, too yellow green etc.

 The piece with the little red hearts is from the first quilt I made and the green raindrops is from baby B's Jack and Jenny quilt.  Everything else is in between.  That's 20 years of quilting greens people.  I am amazed to see them all together like this.  Amy Butler, Laurie Wisbrun, Sweetwater, and some so old I have no idea who made them.  They didn't always put so much info on selvedges you know.

 And here they are together.  My first and second.  I used a yellow-ish, pink-ish, orange-ish for the binding.  I am happy with how it came out.

So what do you think?  Purple, red, pink, blue next?  So much fun awaits.
