My Beatrix Obsession

I think I have an obsession. Maybe more than one, but let's focus on this one for now. The Beatrix blouse pattern by Rae Hoekstra of Made By Rae. I searched for and found this pattern last spring. I was looking for something to make for myself that fit my style at this point in my life. When you are 60 and go shopping for clothes it is rough. I don't fit the younger look any more and I don't feel like an old lady just yet. Then I found Beatrix. I made 3 for myself, blogged here. Then, I wanted to know if I could make one without buttons up the back. And I can! I have now made two of them. This is the latest one:
I found a new to me fabric shop called Imagine Gnats, through Rachel Hauser's blog, Stitched In Color. When I went to see what she had, I was wowed by this fabric. It is a Lawn, made by Alison Glass. I had never seen it before and I just had to get it.
I did not buy it for myself. My daughter needs a couple of new tops for work and this one really seems like her style. It is a soft and lovely fabric with great drape to it. I sewed it without buttons up the back and sewed all the seams flat fell so there would be no raveling. This is the second one I have made with this technique and it seems to work well since the fabric is so thin.
Strategic pattern placement helped to get the look I was going for. The navy top about the shoulders and the aqua closer to the hemline.
I had a 5 inch wide piece left that actually ran edge to edge and decided to make a small scarf she can use to accessorize or she can wear it with something else. It is also soft and flowing.
So can you see why I am obsessed with this pattern? It is also very well written and easy to follow. Enjoy your weekend and I'll talk to you soon.

Sunday Stash #10

I got just a couple of new things this week.  I am planning a wedding quilt for my middle daughter and she loves fall colors. I wanted to make something modern using fall colors and I am going to use mostly Kona solids, so I had to start getting some of them. Sorry the pics are not brighter, but cloudy and rainy is the order of the day here.
This is the pattern and the first of the fabrics. The pattern is Concerto by Aria Lane, a pattern company that was started by Alyssa Lichner of Pile O' Fabric. I fell in love with this quilt when I first saw it and am so happy to have a reason to make it now. I still need to work out what other fabrics I want to incorporate. The pattern and fabrics came from Christa Quilts. Colors are lipstick red 1194, orange 1265 and Canary yellow 26.
Next, I was blog reading and saw an adorable quilt by Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew using this sweet goldfish fabric by Timeless Treasures. I fell in love with it. It is actually a brighter white background.
I scoured the internet and found it at Fabric.com. They are out of it now, so I am thinking I am not the only one.  I bought a yard to use in a baby quilt. Allison has a great pattern that she used this in, but I haven't quite decided if I am going to use that pattern or another.
Here is the fabric I pulled from my stash to go with this one:
This is the complete pull, for now. I may add or subtract. Still thinking on it.
Some Sweetwater, Squared elements, Emily Herrick, Malka Dubrawsky and some older blues.
Some Pearl bracelets, Denyse Schmidt, Alison Glass, and Laurie Wisbrun.
These are the darker blues I chose.
And this is an older batik that I have used pieces of in many things. It is a bit hard to tell, but the dots in it range from a yellowish orange to a darker red orange. I have always loved it and it will be perfect in this.  Linking up to Sunday Stash.

Magic Mail Monday

Don't you just love alliteration? Not all of this came this morning, but one did, so I decided to post it all.  Lots of lovely eye candy.

First up is a collection of fat quarters from Andover Fabrics. It is the Feathers from the Sun Print line by Alison Glass.  I won this from the Craft Buds blog giveaway. Isn't it beautiful?
Part of the prize was also a print by Alison and two patterns, which I elected to get via PDF files. So generous, right?
Next, I entered a giveaway for these, but ended up ordering them myself.  It is a fat quarter bundle of the beautiful Squared elements collection by Art Gallery fabrics. So soft and pretty!
And look at this! Don't these two lines look so pretty together? I might have to consider this a bit.
One more shot of the gorgeousness. Can't resist.
Last, but not least is an 11 fat quarter collection from Fabri Quilt.  I won this giveaway back at the end of April. What with Market and shipping delays, I just received it last week. It is called simply Black and White.
This is my favorite print in the group and I already have a plan for these lovely black and white prints, as soon as I finish the 6 quilts I am currently working on.  Thanks so much to Andover and Alison Glass and also to Fabri Quilt. Free fabric makes my day!
