WIP Wednesday...Yay!

I am still here and I am finding that I am still enjoying sewing, although not as prolifically as before. Just plodding along really. And for now, that's okay by me. The mojo is still there, just turned down a bit. For today, this is what I have for you:

Remember these? Back in January I picked these great spring greens from my stash. I was really wanting to make a small quilt for above the mantle that was really spring-y. I let this sit and gel for a bit and finally came up with a plan.

A single, large Dresden plate in spring greens, with a sunny yellow center to represent, duh, the sun! I wanted a very pale blue Kona solid to represent the sky in the spring. You know, those days when the sun still feels so thin? I think this one is Bluebell. It looks really grey here, but that is just the indoor lighting.

I am debating the quilting of this. Any thoughts? I have already decided to bind in one of these great spring greens too. Should finish at about 34 inches square. Lovin' it so far. Happy Wednesday to you. Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced.

WIP Wednesday...the one with the Dots

If you have been a reader of my blog for at least a year, you will remember when I made this block for a blog hop about a year ago...or maybe longer.

Anyway I was going to make a pillow out of it. Then I didn't because I decided to make more.

Then I decided to make them into a quilt, but each one was already quilted to the batting. So I took a page from Maureen and decided to quilt as I go. Each block and then my hubby helped me figure out a layout. After that, I cut white pieces and quilted them to go in between all the Dresden blocks. It took me forever almost.

Now I am finally done with that and I made a back and I am quilting the front to the back. Yay me!

You can kind of see some of the quilting on the white part here. I took this picture Sunday.

Here it is laid out and pin basted. I hope to get it done this week so I can bind it. Wait until you see what I have in mind for the binding!! See you soon. Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced.

another WIP and Maggie Rabbits

Here is another WIP that started out as a single block for a Sew We Quilt blog hop. I thought to make a pillow with it, but then decided to make more Dresdens and make a quilt.

The green one was the first for the hop. They are all made from Ombre Dots fabric. This is the layout, and all the area in between them will be Kona white, same as the backing for the Dresdens.

I have made three of these Maggie Rabbits so far and am working on a fourth one which will be a boy bunny for V.

I love these sweet little bunnies so much. You can purchase the pattern and buy your own supplies to make one (or more) or you can order a kit with everything in it except the stuffing.

They are designed by Alicia Paulson of Posie Gets Cozy. She has a great little shop, Rosie Little Things. It is full of wonderful items.

In fact, I love the things in there so much, I have decided that when I get to my 200th post, that will be my giveaway.

I am working to set up the logistics with Alicia. I am very excited about this. I love to share when I have something I truly love to make.

Not Only Did I Dare to Dresden...

...I took tons of pictures. I hope you don't mind. I started with jelly roll strips of red, white and pink polka dots.

I loved the way they went together when I was chain piecing them. So cool...

More fun...

Then I started playing with arrangements...

This is the one I finally went with. It seemed to me to be the best for this application.

And before I even finished the project I had in mind for these, inspiration struck again, so I quickly jumped on it before the idea could be lost. I still had a bit over a quarter yard of my Ombre Dots!

Sew I fussy cut them to come up with this arrangement. I used almost every scrap in this, but I love it.

I put a dark green Kona circle in the middle, and then I stitched in the ditch up and down the fan blades with my machine.

And I did accent stitching with Perle Cotton. I was thinking maybe pillow, but once I did the accent stitching, I wanted more.

So I think I am going to make more of these and make them into a quilt, because I just can't stop at one. Now about that first Dresden...this is what happened to it:

I wanted to make a pouch, but I sort of forgot that it would have a flat bottom. I forgot to compensate for that...

So a lot of it ended up on the bottom. At first I was bummed, because it didn't turn out like I had pictured it, but it is sort of cute after all...

I used Anna at Noodlehead's wide mouthed pouch tutorial. I love the way those turn out every time!
Could I stop now? NO! I had to make more...

I wanted to see how small I could go...these fan blades are 2 1/2 inches, but the circle in the center is still too big. They are Sunkissed by Sweetwater and the center is the new Noteworthy line by Sweetwater. I realized I needed to make the narrow end even narrower to get a smaller center.

This one became my new mug rug for my desk and I love it. More stitching around the outside with Perle Cotton. But I still wanted a smaller one...

This is more Sunkissed, I am almost out of it now.

I adjusted the size once again to make it smaller still. The small Ackfeld hanger is 5 inches wide. Want a little perspective? Here you go...

That's what I wanted to achieve! I love this little cutie! And now, my tale of Dresdens is done. Thanks to Madame Samm and Christine at Quilt monster in my closet. Another fabulous hop and I learned so much and I thought I didn't really like making Dresdens. Who knew? Here is the rest of the schedule for today. Enjoy the hop.
