Geesey Geesey Finished Pictures

I know I promised to come back and show off my finished quilt, but then I got busy and kinda forgot to take said pictures, until today.

I was waiting for a cloudy day, so the colors would not wash out.  I am pretty sure this is upside down, but, no matter.

The way I can tell, is that the pink backing bled a bit in the bottom right corner, which is in the upper left here. I used 2 color catchers with this, and they came out pink, but maybe two wasn't enough?

See the top right here? That old fabric is the culprit. It was an old batik I wanted to finally use up.

I had a few leftover geese so they flew onto the back of the quilt. I had forgotten how pretty this quilt is, until today when I saw it again. It has been sitting folded on a chair for awhile now.

 I also wanted to share this work in progress with you here.

I am working on another paper pieced string quilt now. I am trying to use up a bunch of my scraps in these two color bins. This is the third arrangement I have tried. I'm not set on any arrangement yet. It will sort of depend on how many of each block color I end up with. Well, I need to go work on these blocks. They won't sew themselves you know. Eight Projects? What?

 I was sitting in my sewing room the other day, and for some reason, I counted the projects I am working on. This does not include crochet or hand work. I have EIGHT quilting projects going on right now. Eight. How did this happen to someone whose sewing mojo was on hiatus? So let's just see what's going on in there.

This is the beginning of a baby quilt. I don't want to show too much of it yet, since the recipient doesn't know about it and I want to keep it that way for awhile.

This is the beginning of another Swoon quilt. I told my sister about a year or so ago, that I would make her one of these. So now I am starting on it. Instead of nine blocks, I am making 16 blocks, in the large size. The original calls for 9 blocks. These blocks finish at about 24 inches and she wants a drape down the sides of her bed, which is a queen. This block has 81 pieces in it, and once I have a block cut and ready to sew, it takes me about 2 1/2 hours to put it together, and press all the seams. So this will be a slow and steady job.

My tiny house quilt top is done and waiting to be basted and quilted. For now, it's on a hanger on the door of the room. I am thinking of stitching in the ditch around the houses for this. I don't want to detract from the houses on this.

The first two rows of my Project Pink quilt are together. I have to remove the paper pieces from each block before sewing them together. So for each session with this quilt, I remove paper and sew one row together, and then sew it to the others.

This is my second Project Pink quilt. I have long wanted to do this quilt. I am using up many of my pink scraps for this one. I had tons of 2.5 inch squares cut and in the scrap bin. I have since had to cut some more from bigger scraps and this is about half of the size of the quilt, so a ways to go yet.

After I finished the pink strip blocks, I decided to do some blue and green ones. I am really trying to use up some of the many scraps I have. These will go into a quilt together. I have way more blue strips than green, so that's the way this quilt will eventually go. I make a block almost every day. This is another slow, steady project. I have found that I like that type of project. No pressure.

My Penny Sampler is near to being done. The quilting is done (picture of that coming soon) and I just got the fabric for the binding. I need to make and attach the binding and label. So, very soon it will be done.

And last, but not least, my Geesey Geesey quilt. The top is done, the backing is ready and the batting has been cut from the roll. I need to pin baste this and I am thinking maybe this weekend I will do that so that it is ready to quilt when the mood strikes me.

Sew It's Sunday

 I sew a bit every day. I still have not gained back my momentum for hours of sewing daily, but I chose the tiny houw project just to keep my hand in the game and it seems to be working.

This beauty is finally pin basted and ready to be quilted. And I have a quilting plan for it as well, so yay! I am waiting until I finish the tiny houses to start quilting it. I don't want to have to reset the machine every day, as I know that will put a wrench in my daily sewing.

This quilt top is also finished and the back is made. I don't have enough pins to pin baste it too, so I will wait until a bunch are out of the penny sampler to do the pin basting. I think I finally have a quilting plan that I like for this one. I doodled around on paper to come up with one.

And then there is this beauty. This is the Meadow Blanket CAL with Lucy of Attic 24. I am just starting on the borders for this and the colors are divine. I like crochet because I can do it anywhere and I can watch TV while doing it. Lucy's blankets are all just lovely.

Well, now I'm off to make tiny house number 90. This project is winding down. Can't wait to show you the whole thing. Have a lovely Sunday friends.

Flying Geese and Embroidery

Now, the flying geese have absolutely nothing to do with the embroidery. But I decided to cram them both into one post. First, the flying geese. Rachel at Stitched in Color is doing a sew along of her Geesey Geesey pattern and of course, I had to join in. I have always wanted to do a flying geese quilt. This was my chance.

I saw a lovely rendition of this quilt using some of these colors. That was what grabbed my attention.

I used a no waste method of making the geese which I got from Melissa Cory at Happy Quilting. I love her method and the important thing was to make the geese the correct size.

The background, or "sky" in my quilt is made from some Kona white that I dyed in a Shibori style, using Rit dye in pearl grey. Some of them are lighter than I wanted, but over all I am happy with the way it looks in the blocks. I want to try dying again now that I have some idea of how it works.

 

I just had to chop off all the dog ears. Having them there bugs me. I need clean edges.

And yes, I worked ahead. I have started arranging them and looking at them to find the best positions for each one. I will be back soon with the finished top.

And now on to embroidery...

I found this book of embroidery vegetables that I fell in love with. I want to do a bunch of them to frame and give to my daughter. She has become quite the gardener during the pandemic.

But first, I need to finish this sampler from Rebecca at Dropcloth Samplers. It is almost finished. I have been working on this for months. Whenever I need a hand stitching project, I pick this up. I love hand stitching.

So I think that just about catches us up. Take care, and stay healthy.

Well Hello October

 Yes, I know we are more than half way through the month. I have been busy. I have no real excuses, but then, this is my blog so I don't need any. Here's a bit of what I've been up to.

First of all, I am participating in the Geesey Geesey QAL with Rachel of Stitched in Color. I bought some Kona white and used a Shibori technique to dye it. I used Rit dye in Pearl Grey. It's actually a bit lighter than this now that it's dry. I am going to use it for the "sky" in my flying geese blocks.

These blocks are for my Penny Sampler Quilt. The pineapple block on top is the one I am using for the quilt. The second one was actually the first on I made, but I got confused and placed the pink pieces next to the center square, which was not my intention. I re-made the block the way I wanted to, and am so very happy that I did. The third block is just a six inch block for the top section of the quilt.
