We're Really Sewing Here

I feel like I am really getting my sewing groove on here. I have ideas for quilts and garments and am sewing most every day, at least a little bit. After my daughter and granddaughter were here for a long weekend visit, I have even more inspiration to sew some cute little dresses. So that is coming in the very near future. I have some fabrics, but I just ordered a few more. More on that soon too. For today, here is what we have going on:

 Middle daughter shopped my stash last winter an set aside a box of fabrics she liked. She requested some small wall hanging size quilts for her home. Yesterday, I revisited Melissa Corry's tutorial on flying geese blocks. She has a very easy method with no wasted fabric. I know, crazy, right? No scraps.

 The first set I made, I cut the large squares out of the wrong fabric and I only had about a quarter yard, but I worked it out. I will put the rest of these together and see how they look. The other one will get quilted.

 And this is the back of a pincushion made from leftovers, just to see how small I could go.

 EEEP!! So small and cute. This pin cushion thing may be getting out of control.

 Then, I finally bound this one up. I put it together without a recipient last year, to try out the plus design. It is now destined for a soon to arrive baby I know.

 I love the fabrics in this one and I think they go very well together. Lots of cute prints.

 And a nice bright back as well. Nothing better that a two sided quilt for a baby, right?

 I quilted scallops all around the cat border and then at my hubby's suggestion, wavy lines in the blue border. I love how it turned out.

 This is going to make a certain mama and baby really happy. I am thrilled to be able to send her this.

Baby Quilts I Have Made

In a continuing effort to keep this blog moving forward towards my 400th post, in spite of the holiday craziness, I am focusing on baby quilts I have made. There are a lot of them. For that reason, this will be (mostly) a picture post. Ready?

 Okay, so he isn't a baby, but I made two of these for the first two grandsons for their first big boy beds.

 Can't quite see the tumbling blocks quilt here, all in bright colors for this little guy, the first grandson.

 Made two of these for a sweet pair of sisters. They weren't babies anymore either, but so what?

 I loved this pattern so much I had to make another. The above is a bag you can fold the quilt up and carry it in.

 A whole cloth quilt for a sweet baby boy. I love this one, even though it is so simple.

 This one above and the one below it were donated to help raise money for cancer.

 These, you may remember, were made this summer for a set of twins living in Ohio.

 And these for a set of twins living in Texas. Two sets of twins this year, a first for my quilting.

I am sure I forgot a few, but I love making baby quilts. They are quick and you can try out lots of patterns on them. Happy Monday everyone.

Ooooh Baby Baby

A twin finish this week folks! I am glad to have the last of the baby quilts done!  Ready for the story? You knew there'd be one, right?

 So I have this friend who lives in Texas. We met when we moved to Texas more than 20 years ago. She is a great friend and she is as Texas as a person can be.

 Her daughter, who is friends with my daughters, is expecting twins. Now, this is exciting in and of itself.

 But what makes it even more exciting as that twins do not run in their family. Not at all. Not on either side.

 So, what do you make for a set of identical twins from Texas? Yup. Twin Texas Flag quilts. Now, they are not identical.

 I made them from lots of scraps in my stash and I did buy a couple of half yard pieces to make it all work.

 The back of the quilts is some adorable baby flannel fat quarters I bought a couple of years ago from Connecting Threads.

 One quilt is bound in blue, one bound in red. Just another little subtle difference.

And I can't wait to send all this cuddly stuff off to Texas. It should be a nice surprise. Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday.

WIP Wednesday-Short and Sweet

I've been working on so many things over here the past couple of weeks. I am piecing some stuff and quilting some stuff and planning some stuff. So, lots of stuff. What is on my design wall this week is this:

 I am making 3 slabs. One red, one white and one blue, for a pair of baby quilts. I have a friend whose daughter is expecting twins.

They are identical twins, so twin quilts. Not identical. Because even identical twins have their differences. Have a lovely day. Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced.

Friday Finish-Twins!

Sometimes, when a friend is expecting a baby, it turns out to be twins! And that means two baby quilts. And since they are fraternal twins, it means they should have some of the same elements, but still be different and individual.  So now, I have completed that mission.

 Here are the pair of them. What they have in common is the fabrics used for the quilt tops, the binding and they both have Ohio Stars on them. This family lives in Ohio.

 This one is made from lots of scraps of the fabrics, in a sort of stacked coins arrangement. I had so many of these pieces and wanted something scrappy. I have been saving these scraps for years, waiting for a baby quilt to use them in.

 It has a single Ohio star on it, in red since that was the one color I had a bigger piece of. I really fell in love with this pattern while I was making these.

 The quilt is quilted with diagonal lines two inches apart all the way, except for the star which is stitched in the ditch around the star.

This is the back of this quilt. I added the yellow strip to make the one yard of fabric work for the back of the quilt. Love it!

 Here is the other quilt. It has 5 Ohio stars and 4 white squares, which, I suppose makes it a nine patch. Each is 12 inches square.

 All the stars are stitched in the ditch, but the white squares are the outline shape of the Ohio star, stitched as two lines about an eighth of an inch apart.

And this is the back. I had a yard of this Lizzy House flag fabric from the Castle Peeps line and I added the same yellow strip to make it bigger that the other quilt had. I love that little matching detail too.

And now I have a twin set of baby quilts ready to send off to Ohio to the family. The binding is a stripe from Connecting Threads Quilter's Candy line. It has most of the colors of the quilts in it. Yay for a happy finish! Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts Finish It Friday.
