Sewjo Saturday-Twice as Nice

Well I have been pushing and pushing myself to finish these quilt tops. And today...they are done.

 What held things up was all these little pieces that had to be sewn and then trimmed down and sewn again.

 That made these, which I used as a border to enlarge the quilt on the sides. I am aiming for twin.

 Here is the quilt top for V. The fabric line is Riley Blake's Rocket Age. The quilt design is my own.

 I love the little diamond borders down each side. The backing of this will be a Kona solid blue so it won't detract from the busy design which is the star.

The next quilt top is the one that started the whole thing for me...B's quilt. When I saw the Sasparilla fabric line, I knew I wanted to make B a quilt for his first big boy bed.

 He just turned 2, so it will be soon. I bought half yard cuts of my favorites, got out the graph paper and went to work. I quickly found I didn't have enough fabric, so I bought some more.

 The quilt looks a bit more washed out here than it really is, but once it's quilted, It will be great. The back of this one will be a Kona solid yellow.

 The boys share a room, so to have two quilts similar, but not identical seemed a good choice. I counted how many fabrics I used for B's quilt and when I saw Rocket Age, I picked out the same quantity of fabrics for V. This time I knew how much to buy the first time.

I am so happy with how these came out. Once I get them quilted, I will be back to show them off. Linking up with Kim for Sewjo Saturday.

Sewjo, So Slow

So it seems my sewjo has slowed considerably this past week or so. I have had the most awful cold and haven't felt like sewing or much of anything else. I have done a little bit, so here I am to share that with you today.

 I got this baby quilt quilted. I still need to bind it, but I think hubby helped me figure that out, so that is up on the agenda for the coming week. I will share once the whole thing is done.

 And then V's quilt went from this earlier in the week, to this today....

I have a skinny red with white stars border ready to attach and then tons of HSTs to sew together for the final border. I will be working on that aspect of his and B's quilt together, since they are the same pattern with just different fabrics. Can't wait to see these two done. They are going to be so cool. It's Sewjo Saturday

I have to admit, I am loving these Saturday posts. Everything that happens during the week is great and fun to read about, but the weekends were a little dull before now. I am so inspired by other people"s talents and this is what keeps me going through the weekend.  I am doing as much sewing as time allows, but pictures are harder to come by. This is my current project, well, one of them.

 This is V's Rocket Age quilt and though the pictures are not much yet, it's going to be fabulous.

I am at that phase in the quilt where the piecing is just beginning and even with chain piecing, it takes a bit of time to get enough done to show real progress in pictures. I plan to really give it a go this next week in my spare bits of time so that by next Saturday, they might be much more to show. Have a great Saturday. Linking up with GoGo Kim for Sewjo Saturday.

Getting Zen With It

The title of this post comes from a conversation with my Hubby this morning. I have to go to work at 1 on Saturdays and I always try to get an hour or two of sewing in before I go. I am in the home stretch of this quilt top:

I hope you're not tired of seeing this one yet, because not only am I almost done, I am making another one just like it in Rocket Age by Riley Blake Designs. Here's a look at that:

 This is the yardage I bought, based on how much it has taken to make the Sasparilla quilt top.

 And yesterday, in about 90 minutes, after installing a new blade in my rotary cutter so I could cut multiple layers at once, I had this.

All the pieces of the second quilt top are cut. This was not how the first one went. As I was figuring out the design, I cut a few, then sewed and then cut a few more. Now, I have the necessary pattern drawn out.

This is the whole stack for a quilt top. It doesn't look like enough, does it? Well anyway, back to Zen.
So I have lots and lots of HSTs to stitch together for the final border of the first quilt, even though I would really rather work with the newly cut fabrics.  So I put on some music and tried to find my Sewjo and become one with the fabric triangles.
