November Penny Sampler Blocks

 I finished my November blocks for the Penny Sampler Pattern Club. Next month, in December we will tackle assembly of the whole quilt. So I wanted to share the blocks, and then the quilt so far, up on the design wall.

This is the tea cup. I did a bunch of tea cups for the last Penny sampler, and then I made a small quilt out of them for my sister for Christmas a couple of years ago. Because I had already done a lot, I decided to just do one for this quilt. I love the elegance of the cup.

And this is my mitten. I love the fabrics I chose for this. My only wish is that the top of the mitten could have had more of a curve. People who have seen this don't realize it's a mitten. But I am mostly happy with it and it was a simple block to make.

So here are all the parts hanging on the wall. It gives you a pretty good idea what the whole thing will look like. I am pretty happy with it and I love all the new blocks since the last one. They will be very different quilts. Have a lovely week.

Did You Miss Me?

 I knew I hadn't posted in awhile. I was surprised to see it had been so long though. I am still chugging through my days here. We started walking in the mornings before my husband leaves for work. We are up to 2 miles a day, and will probably not add distance any longer, but are aiming for a little bit of speed. It has been 3 weeks now, and that's about how long since I have been here, so that's my excuse. Lol.

I still sew almost every day, even if it's only a little bit. I have 4 different quilts under construction right now. The first is my Penny Sampler Club quilt. This is a year long project.

This is the Bridges block. I decided to use the Ombre Bloom fabric that I used for the Hanging Diamonds block. I thought It might add some continuity. These are the only two blocks with this fabric in them. The other August blocks are the small square penny candy blocks. When I went to pull fabrics for them, I discovered that I did not have enough background fabric for them, so I am waiting for my Kona Lake fabric to arrive. Those may become September blocks.

The second quilt I am working on is my version of Amanda Jean's Scrap Happy Rails from her book No Scrap Left Behind. I saw that someone had posted theirs on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and I was instantly smitten and had to start one. Funny thing though, I just looked at their quilt and figured out how to make it, before I even realized that it was Amanda Jean's. As soon as I finally noticed the one hashtag, I laughed and got my copy of the book out to look it up. So much easier than doing all the math.

I got out my red, blue, green, yellow, and teal scrap bins and cut all of the strips for the quilt in a couple of sessions. Then I worked on my strip sets and cutting them to size. Yesterday, I attached all the strip sets to the large piece, making my 36 blocks. I have my layout done and will start sewing them together today.

Project Catch Up

So I have been busy with lots of different projects here. I want to share just a couple of them today.

This is the top left corner of my Dropcloth sampler. I am have such fun with this. It's like coloring with thread. It is a slow, peaceful hand project.

I cleaned and reorganized my sewing space recently and I found this fat eighth bundle that I have had for goodness knows how long. I won it when I lived in NC. The color pallet is not really my preference, but it is pretty. My middle daughter loves these deep colors so she will be the winner of a new quilt. There is a picture below of the top, but blogger re-ordered my photos and I can't seem to get it the way I'd like.

This is one of the July blocks for my Penny Sampler Pattern Club. We are now 7 months in and it is getting exciting to see things come together.

I took all my leftover yarn that is either pink or purple to start a blanket for Miss N. Her two favorite colors. This pattern is from Lucy at Attic 24. It is the cosy stripe blanket and it crochets up pretty quickly. I am one third of the way done here.

This is the clover block, the other July block for the Penny Sampler. July was a quick and easy month for this club. The other thing we did was to cut filler blocks, which are mostly 6.5 inch squares to be placed throughout the quilt.

Here, at last we come to the completed quilt top. I made strip sets and was able to get three blocks from each set. This is just a pretty lap size quilt. The borders are some Ombre Confetti Metallic I had on hand. I made the back on Friday, also from fabric on hand. This is a stash quilt for sure. I will pin baste and begin quilting this week.

The last project I have to share is my second Dear Dottie quilt. I have done all the other block combinations of lights and darks and colors. This is the last. The white borders and the colors. I have to make 53 of these blocks, and each one has 4 sections. I got all of them cut out and began assembly last week.

This is what I have so far. This quilt will not be as scrappy looking as the previous one I did. I wanted to do one with a controlled pallet ever since I made the first one. This project got lots of attention this past week, so now, it's going to take a back seat for a bit while I tend to some others.

Penny Sampler Quilt Update

Working on the Dutch version of the new Penny Sampler Quilt Club is a monthly goal. We receive an assignment each month to complete the quilt, which is always the highlight of my month. When we finish, we will have another lovely quilt top. This quilt is all paper pieced and I am really learning to enjoy that technique for it's accuracy.

The top picture is some of the blocks on my design wall, with the friendship braid in the center. It was tough wrangling that long piece with the paper. It is 36 inches long!

This is the first of my houses. I was able to find enough of the raindrop fabric to do the sky in all of the three houses. Today, I only have one house done. I used Lola Dutch fabric from Sarah Jane. I had some leftover from Christmas gifts I made for Miss N.

The walls of this house are the library books on shelves. The windows are fussy cut from another border print in the collection. The part that is my favorite is Lola Dutch in the attic window reading, on a rainy day!
